Obituary for Alvilva Carr (Ousley)

Alvilva Carr (Ousley)
Alvilva (Ousley) Carr – age 100, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2018 at 8:30 p.m. at Holston Health and Rehab Center in Knoxville. She was born on January 25, 1918 in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee and lived to celebrate her 100th birthday on January 25, 2018. She was somewhat secretive about her age, but grew quite excited as she neared her 100th birthday and wanted everyone to come to her party. She looked forward to seeing her wonderful extended family, her fellow members of First Baptist Church of Maynardville, and other Union County friends. Oh, my, was she ever pleased with the turnout. What a celebration! She had been recently recognized as the oldest living member of her church at the church’s 175th anniversary celebration. She was always so proud of her Union County heritage, and the Sharps Chapel community where she grew up. One of her fondest memories was playing forward on the undefeated and county champion Rush Strong Elementary girls’ basketball team. She went on to be a successful player for the Horace Maynard High School girls’ Red Devils. Having been raised on a farm, she loved gardening and until the age of 97, with the help of her son Jimmy and wife, Bonnie, put out a garden. She loved preparing meals for her family each Sunday, and especially enjoyed cooking for the holidays. There was never a table set without green beans on it! The family has greatly missed, over the past three years since she had to live away from home, the wonderful meals and the teasing and laughter around the table.

Alvilva was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Willard O. Carr; parents, Mary Laud (Craig) Ousley and O. C. Ousley; sister and brother-in-law, Anna Lou and Edmund Campbell; sisters-in-law, Helen Carr (Clifford) Love and Louise Carr (Malcolm) Brogan; brothers-in-law, John Harvey (Sue) Carr, Rufus Gordon Price and Paul Talley; granddaughter, Rebecca Carr Hunt; and great granddaughter, Molly Payne. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Terry Carr and James “Jimmy” and Bonnie Carr; sister, Billie Talley; grandchildren, Courtney Carr (Eric) Cowles, James (Beverly) Carr II, and Paige Carr (Darrell) Smith; step granddaughter, Lori (Tod) Zeiger; great grandchildren, Elyse Cowles and Sophie Cowles, Mindy Smith Payne, Amanda Smith Brandner, Bryson Smith, Hannah Smith, Tayllor Carr Hunt, Maggie Carr, Makayla Carr and Mason Carr; step great-grandsons, Brady and Parker Hill; great-great granddaughters, Lacey and Maleah Payne and Piper Brandner; also survived by several very special nephews and nieces; and special friend, Linda Brewer. The family would like to give much thanks and gratitude to all those who cared for her at Windsor Gardens Assisted Living and Holston Health and Rehab over the last three years. You all became family to us.
